For years, I carried a purse that was small and held just the few things I really needed: credit cards, some cash, keys, small bottle of meds, Kleenex, etc. It wasn’t a purse I would take on long adventures: it was simply my back/forth to work and running errands purse.
Two years ago, my sister – who happens to be one of the top sales people for Brighton – gave me the most beautiful purse. No matter where I go, people – even men – admire it. It is a gorgeous purse. However, here’s the problem: it’s simply too big.
I only use maybe 30% of the area inside. What I’ve discovered is that because the remaining 70% is empty, I am starting to put more and more things into my purse: bottles of water, notebooks, etc. The result is an albatross that hangs on my arm.
I know a lot of people have heard me talking about Decluttering for Dollars (or ”DFD” as I call it); yet many aren’t sure what it is.
Decluttering for Dollars started out when I was decluttering my house for a major move and wanted to find a way to sell my clutter. (Remember: one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.) I began selling a few things here and there on Amazon.com. That’s really how it started: I was making money as I was decluttering. Yet, I found that my decluttering offered so many avenues when it came to money.
I just realized that prior to my previous post, I had not updated my blog since November. That’s probably because I spent the better part of December in California caring for my parents (who are doing much better thanks to all your prayers).
I’m glad that 2009 is over, personally. It will not be a year I want to recall in the future. Too much illness, too much chaos, mayhem, and foolishness (as Neicy Nash on Clean House says), and just too much “stuff” going on.
I’m transitioning into a quieter phase in my life. Maybe that’s because I’m turning 49 or simply because I’m tired of trying to swim upstream. I know they say that God never gives you more than you can handle…so I had to wonder if maybe what I was getting was self-made. Think about that for yourself: is the crisis you’re facing something you put into motion?
To help in 2010, I have once again gotten all my Feng Shui ducks in a row and have begun implementing my cures for this year. Also looking forward to celebrating the Chinese New Year on Valentine’s Day. Why, here in America, don’t we have more colorful holidays? Have you ever seen a Chinese New Year celebration? What a site it is to behold.
